The Team

Research in the laboratory headed by Prof. Gianfranco Vidali focuses on the study of physical and chemical processes leading to the production of molecules in interstellar space and on the study of static and dynamic properties of ultra-thin films on well characterized surfaces. The team tipically consists of two graduate students, Valerio Pirronello, professor at the University of Catania (Italy), a post-doc and numerous undergraduate students. The main facility is an atomic/molecular beam scattering apparatus. with two atomic/molecular beam lines, a time-of-flight section, and a laser system for excitation of molecules in the UV.
