Hey! What is that Center
for
Really
Neat Research all about anyway? Well, imagine, say, that you are
a quadriplegic and you really want to have a life. You want to communicate
and have some semblance of independence in accessing information and controlling
your environment. Such assistive and enabling technologies are, in part,
what our research is about. With Dave Warner, MD and a diverse, talented
team of student researchers — and in collaboration with SU’s Northeast
Parallel Architectures Center (NPAC; www.npac.syr.edu)
and others — we are pushing the envelope with custom software and hardware
(low-cost sensors, mounting hardware, etc.) to allow everyone to interact
better with (and via) computers. Come and see live demos of our NeatTools
visual-programming software and our electronic interface devices. Try them
out yourself after, or maybe even during, the lecture. For a preview, check
out www.pulsar.org.
