Course Description

This course, which is a continuation of PHY322 (Intermediate Mechanics I), will be based mainly on the Fowles and Cassiday text. Emphasis will be placed on problem solving. The last sessions will deal with the topic of Chaos and Complex Systems, which is not covered in the text. Reference and resource materials on this topic will be provided later.

Grading

The grading will be allocated as follows: 25% homework, 35% midterm exam, and 40% final exam.

Final Examination

As mentioned in class, the final exam will be "closed book and closed notes." The exam scope will be comprehensive, but with emphasis on material covered since the midterm exam. Scientific calculators will be provided on loan during the exam; no other electronic devices are permitted. Students are encouraged to bring to the exam a handwritten (only) "crib sheet" (2-sided on 8.5" x 11" paper); the crib sheet must not include solutions to problems from homework or the midterm exam. You must turn in your crib sheet with your exam blue book(s). Please print your name on the top right corner of the front side of your crib sheet. After grading is completed, the crib sheets will be placed in the undergraduate office, so any students who want to do so can pick them up in January (as a compact reference resource for future physics studies); after the end of the January, any that have not been picked up will be discarded.
