Common Entries Contest MOJO7.ANTONYMS

This is a Common Entries Contest, MOJO7.ANTONYMS

Reply ONLY by e-mail to momo@physics.ucsb.edu.
DO NOT POST ANSWERS TO ANY NEWSGROUP!!!
Entries must reach here by June 26th, Wednesday, noon (L.A. time, zone -7).

As in other my Common Entry Contests, the object is to get the most common
answer. However, UNLIKE IN MY PREVIOUS COMMON ENTRY CONTESTS, ANSWERS
CAN BE RULED WRONG. The rules are otherwise the same as before.

For each of the ten words below, you should give a word which is, in
some sense, an antonym of that word (i.e. an opposite). Your answer
must be a single word, and may not be a nonsense word (but slang, archaic
words, and proper names are all acceptable). This means that I must be
able to find some evidence that the word was in general usage somewhere
before the start of this contest, with a commonly accepted meaning.
Furthermore, your answer may not contain the original word as a
substring. Answers which violate these conditions will receive a
penalty score of 1/5.

For example, if I write "banana," the following answers would all
score 1: "banana," "bananas," "anti-banana," (all containing the
substring "banana"), "qxljg," "ananab," (nonsense words),
and "ice cream" (not a single word).

Two answers will only be ruled the same only if the same word, up to
capitalization and regional variations in spelling.

For each of the items above, your goal is to give the most common
valid response to the question. (See above for an explanation of
which responses are invalid.)

Your score on each question is equal to the number of people who give that
answer. If you skip a question, give an invalid answer, or leave it blank, you
will score 1 for that question. Your total score is the product of your
scores on each question. Your object is to get as high a score as possible.

For my convenience please do not quote this message when responding.
Mail only your answers, and these in plain ASCII or ISO 8859-1 text.

Your message should contain the 10 answers, numbered 1 to 10, and your
name. Comments, explanatory notes, explanations of strategy, and
suggestions for questions for future contests are all welcome, but
please place them after your 10 answers, and make sure that they are clearly
marked so as to not be confused with your answers. Your email address will
be posted in the results if I don't see both a first and a last name, or an
explicit request for a particular form of your name to be used.

Generally, clarifications will not be given during the contest. Multiple
entries are not allowed. Please do not post any discussion of the questions
to the newsgroup or collaborate with other contestants in your entries. If you
have questions about the rules, please e-mail me rather than posting them
to any newsgroup.

Have fun!
