Science Fair Sun 30th 11-4PM at Solvay High School
SPS zone 2 meeting- a day long event is on Sat April 5th at
University of Rochester, topics include physics, astronomy and
related fields. Free food and opportunity to meet other SPS members.
Event starts at 8-3PM
Presentation at Mayfest- talk to Dr. Saulson
We came up with different ideas for mayfest: Ice cream and liquid nitrogen

We need to update the website more often by alumni request
We will be taking new pictures for the website next meeting.
Send Jen new blurbs for the website- Jess will send the minutes from past meetings
Passed around Thank You cards for Sam Sampere and Professor Plourde for their help getting SPS involved in the department picnic (liquid nitrogen ice cream)
Matt is getting in touch with Sam about the high school demos project
APS meeting March 10-14 2008 in New Orleans- there is a travel award of about $200 from SPS nationals- but students must present a paper at the SPS meeting. Deadline to apply for award is Nov 25th
The fall trip to Cornell will be Nov 3rd 2008
Will vote on Spring trip next meeting
Jess will reserve Goldstein March 27th 2008 for speaker
212/211 review sessions are next week!

There is no meeting next week! SPS is giving rides to Cafe Scientifique from College Place Tuesday at 6:30pm
Matt is getting good feedback from high school teachers on outreach project
Carl will start arranging fall trip
SU SPS chapter will attend regional Zone 2 meeting and symposium at University of Rochester in April
Jess will bring in more information about getting travel funding from SPS Nationals to go to New Orleans APS meeting over spring break
The deadline for the budget to ask SA for money for speakers is Nov 6th!
Josh Smith gave a talk on gravitational wave research and how the SU SPS chapter was founded

The Phy211 exam 1 review went very well today
The PHY212 review for Exam 1 will be Wednesday at 5:30pm in Stolkin
Matt is helping Jess write a letter to the department chair
Matt is meeting with high school teachers about making presentations
We will vote next meeting about the fall trip
We will research having a regional SPS meeting at an SU facility in the spring
Gabby is making SPS posters- we will make copies at OSL
Cafe Scientifique is coming up- Jess and Matt will drive
Carl is working on speakers for meetings
Jess is asking SU SPS chapter founder Josh Smith to speak next meeting
Gavin will work on a proposal to the chair for a budget increase, and will keep track of the budget

Meeting this semester will be every Tuesday except the first of the month to accommodate for band members and Cafe Scientifique trips as well as saving money on pizza
Alumni update from Jeremy and Dave: both have RAs already and are doing well at Brown.
Review sessions for PHY 211 and 212 are coming up next week! The department is being really supportive of this, so we should organize it ASAP.
Matt is working on a community outreach program, high school science demos, to be coordinated with Sam
Ideas for a spring project: Hold a regional SPS meeting, have a speaker
We are trying to go to Cafe Scientifique if under 21s are allowed
Thank our advisor Jen for our new couch!
Fall trip ideas: Accelerator at Cornell
Spring trip ideas: Toronto, NYC, Chicago
Next meeting we will have a letter for the chair from SPS
